Hospitality House is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit community shelter for the Homeless in Nevada County. Hospitality House Shelter received a grant from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) to fund renovations for the Hospitality House Shelter, “Utah’s Place”. After the grant was awarded the project came to a halt when negotiations with the HCD, which administers the shelter’s federal grant, became complicated and difficult. Nevada County, City of Grass Valley and the Nevada County Contractor's Association partnered with Hospitality House to advocate for the release of project funding. Nevada County engaged the County’s legislative advocate to review regulations and meet with HCD Department Heads to encourage them to resolve issues and to expedite approval so Hospitality House could proceed with renovations. On February 27, 2013, HCD approved the release of funding for Hospitality House project. We are pleased to see such an important project for our community move forward. The 6,500 square foot building will offer year-round shelter, on-site meals and support services.
