Nevada County Elections to Receive Grant Award as Part of Cal E-Promise Coalition

Nevada County Clerk-Recorder, Gregory J. Diaz, is pleased to announce that the Federal Voting Assistance Program has awarded $1.8 million to a coalition of 13 California counties which includes Nevada County. The coalition is one of six recipients of the Electronic Absentee Systems for Elections grant program. The funds will assist in enhancing the absentee voting process of military and overseas voters.

The program developed by the coalition offers an integrated solution with goals that include online voter registration, notification of ballot availability, the ability to retrieve and mark ballots online, and to track ballot return status for military and overseas voters. The on-demand and accessible web-based technology will make the voting process easier by providing valuable tools to overseas voters. By decreasing the delivery time for registration, ballot requests and ballot delivery the coalition anticipates an increase in ballot return rates for our military and overseas voters.

“Our office is thrilled to be part of the Cal E-Promise Coalition,” states Gregory J. Diaz, Nevada County Clerk-Recorder, “we look forward to utilizing technology to overcome many of the obstacles that face our military and overseas voters.”

The coalition, known as Cal E-Promise, is comprised of the counties Butte, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Fresno, Lassen, Marin, Nevada, Sacramento, San Joaquin, San Luis Obispo, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, and Solano.

Nevada County expects to receive $77,327 for the program. The coalition will make regular reports on the effectiveness of the project to the Federal Voting Assistance Program.
