100-day Initiative Highlights the Need for Local Foster Parents

As we celebrate National Foster Care Month this May, a group of foster care agencies is participating in a 100-day initiative to encourage more people in Nevada and Placer counties to become foster parents, allowing children to remain in their communities. The initiative, "Today's Foster Parent," highlights the need for local foster parents. The main purpose of the campaign, which runs through July 30, is to prevent children from moving from foster home to foster home, and to improve their chances for a permanent family.

Mission Focused Solutions, a Grass Valley-based foster care advocacy organization, is spearheading the campaign in partnership with the Nevada County Health & Human Services Agency/Child Protective Services Program, Placer County Children's System of Care and the Sierra Health Foundation. The 100-day "Rapid Results" campaign recently kicked off a daylong planning session for four nonprofit foster care agencies that connect foster and adoptive parents with children in Nevada and Placer counties. Nonprofits participating in the program include: Children's Hope, EMQ FamiliesFirst, Environmental Alternatives and Sierra Forever Families.

"Far too many children in foster care are forced to move outside of their communities, far from their birth parents, friends, schools, and other support groups. We are asking local families to step forward to make a difference in the lives of these children," said Gail Johnson Vaughan, Executive Director of Mission Focused Solutions.

This is the perfect time to consider whether your family could grow to include a child in need. For more information, please call (530) 477-2900 or visit www.URTodaysFosterParent.org. For information on local foster parent opportunities, contact:
