The Nevada County Office of Emergency Services (OES) has received several inquiries concerning funding to private property owners with Governor’s Brown Emergency Declaration for the January 2017 Storms. Last week the President concurred with the Governor and declared a federal disaster for the State of California. However, funding is limited to emergency protective measures, response costs and damages to public infrastructure.
Individual Assistance (private property) has not been authorized by the federal government. Additionally, the state provides no specific funding for Individual Assistance.
One possible avenue to secure funding for private property damage is through the Small Business Administration (SBA) which can provide low interest loans to private property owners and businesses. To be eligible for this program we must identify 25 homes that were uninsured or under insured that received damage to their residence. This is direct damage to a habitable structure. It does not provide funding to remove downed trees on private property, washed out driveways or sinkholes. However, If a tree were to fall on your house that may be an eligible project for funding.
The Nevada County OES would like to request your assistance to determine if we might be eligible for SBA loans. There is no guarantee, at this time, that funds will become available.
