Library To Go FAQ

What is Library to Go?
Library to Go (aka OverDrive) is a service that provides downloadable audiobooks and ebooks.

What devices work with Library to Go?
Compatible devices include PCs, Macs, eReaders (including the Nook, Sony Reader, Kindle) and other portable devices such as iPhones, iPads, iPods,  Androids, Windows Phone 7, BlackBerrys).

What type of formats are offered?
For audio files - WMA and MP3 formats are available. For eBooks - Kindle books, EPUB and PDF formats are available. Review the Supported Audio Books and eBooks page to see which formats are supported by your device.

How do I see what you have?
Go to the Library to Go website.  It's best to sign in first (use your Nevada County Library card barcode) because Nevada County Library has purchased additional copies of many popular titles specifically for our borrowers. This service is named OverDrive Advantage. After you have signed in the additional titles that we have purchased will become available to you as well as the standard collection. Your hold time could be shorter for titles that our Library owns.

Why aren't there more titles available?
We are limited to purchasing titles from those publishers that are making their books available in electronic format.  Many publishers are not yet providing their titles in this format.

Can I get my name on a waiting list?
Absolutely.  Click on the "join waiting list" button and enter your email address.  When the title is available, you will be sent an email.  You'll have 5 days to check out the item from this time.

How long is the check out period?
You choose either a 7-day or 14-day loan period.

Can I renew items?
No, items cannot be renewed.

How do I return items early?
eBooks can be returned early.  If you're using a Kindle or Kindle application you do this from your Amazon.com account.  If you are using an ePub edition, you return the book from the Adobe Digital Editions library on your computer.

OverDrive Media Console has been improved such that returning of audios early is possible through the software. It isn’t clear at this time if all files downloaded into the software are available for early return, but it appears that OverDrive is responding to user requests to be able to return audio materials early.

What do I do if I have more questions?
There is lots of good information on the Library to Go website -- visit their HELP pages.  If you can't find your answer there, you may email us.
