The Wayne Brown Correctional Facility was dedicated December 17, 1991. It is Board of State and Community Corrections rated to house 283 inmates.
Inmates who have been sentenced to the County Jail and who meet the criteria to be housed in minimum security may be assigned to work on government projects or for local non-profit organizations.
The correctional facility provides over 12,000 hours of inmate labor to various government agencies and non-profit organizations each year.
Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA) - If you wish to file a third party complaint of sexual assault/abuse, sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, or retaliation on behalf of an inmate currently or previously housed in confinement at a Nevada County Jail facility, you may do so in person, by telephone, or by mail. Your complaint may be anonymous if desired. Allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment are referred for investigation to the Nevada County Sheriff's Office unless the allegation does not involve potentially criminal behavior. Inmates may receive one (1) thirty (30) minute supervised visit each visiting day. All visits for non-professional visitors are non-contact. Inmates may receive up to four (4) visitors at one time, one of which must be an adult. The visitation lobby is open Tuesday through Friday. Morning visits are held from 9:00 am to 11:15 am. Afternoon visitation is from 12:30 pm until 4:00 pm. Evening visitation is from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
All visitors must be 18 years of age or older. Appropriate attire is required. No cell phones or cameras are permitted in the visitation rooms. Visitors must provide current government issued ID at the time of check in. There are no exceptions to this rule. NO ID, NO VISIT. Children under the age of eighteen (18) must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Visitors are responsible for their children and must keep them under control. Unruly children may be cause for termination of a visit. Young children shall not be left unattended in the jail lobby or in the vehicle parking lot.
Visitors will be required to pass a security screening and may be subject to a physical search. Any breach of facility security will result in the termination of the visit and may cancel future visits. No person may visit more than two inmates incarcerated at the WBCF on a given visiting day. In the event of an emergency or special circumstance, the shift supervisor may grant additional visits.

Inmates housed in minimum security may be unavailable during their allotted visitation time if they are on a work detail.
Visitors are encouraged to call (530) 265-1291 in advance to assist in determining if minimum security inmates are available.
Visitation may be suspended in the event of an emergency or a full facility lock down.
New visitors must complete a visiting slip.
