It is illegal to throw your fluorescent lighting in the trash, because they contain toxic materials. But there are several ways to dispose of them that are legal and safe for you and the environment.
Visit our Fluorescent Lighting page right here at Nevada County Recycles! to find out where and how.
Help Keep our Recycling Stream Clean
Be proud and help to keep our materials of great quality! When you put non-recyclables (e.g., styrofoam) in with recyclables you create more work for everyone who has to handle the materials and may actually put people at risk with a hazardous substance. These costs add up and makes sorting for markets harder. Take part and get to know all the recycling facts right on this page of our Website!
California law considers used oil & other hazardous wastes generated by businesses differently than that from the general public.
However, if your business generates no more than a total of 27 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous waste (including used oil) per month, then you are considered to be a special class of small business called a Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator, also known as a "CESQG." Often CESQG's don't generate enough used oil to economically manage this waste.
GOOD NEWS! - CESQG Waste may be brought to:
Penn Valley Service, Inc., 10165 Commercial Ave., Penn Valley
REMINDER: STATE LAW MANDATES THAT TRANSPORTATION OF USED OIL IS LIMITED TO 20 GALLONS PER PERSON PER DAY IN CONTAINERS NOT LARGER THAN FIVE GALLONS EACH.
Please remember that used oil filters are classified as hazardous waste unless properly disposed of by recycling. Placing used oil and used oil filters into household garbage or commercial dumpsters or pouring oil onto the ground is prohibited by law.
This service is funded through a grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board.
Administered by Nevada County's Used Oil Recycling Program (265-1768).
