Biography


William H. "Hank" Weston was elected as County Supervisor for District 4 in June 2006 and was sworn in on January 8, 2007. He was selected Vice-Chair in 2008 and 2012, Chair in 2009 and 2013, Vice-Chair in 2016 and is currently serving as the Chair for 2017.
Hank has worked and lived in Nevada County since 1989. He is no stranger to public service, having served for over 45 years with a number of California fire protection agencies.

Fire Services


Hank began his career in fire services as a volunteer, when he was just 15 years old. He was hired by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF), initially as a seasonal firefighter. He then spent two-and-a-half years in the U.S. Army's Counter-Intelligence Corps. After returning to college, Hank continued in his career path, being promoted through the ranks to eventually become CDF Unit Chief of Nevada, Yuba, Placer, Sierra and Sutter Counties. During that period he served seven years as the Nevada County Fire Warden. Following 36 years with CDF, Hank served as Fire Chief for Grass Valley City Fire Department from 1997 to 2006.

Administrative Positions


During his career, Hank's administrative positions have included a wealth of leadership and management duties. His responsibilities meant he frequently had oversight for directing large-scale programs, complex budgets and leadership of hundreds of employees.

Hank has been a member and officer of several professional and community organizations. These include Nevada County Law Enforcement and Fire Protection Council (vice president); Nevada County Emergency Service Joint Powers Authority (chairman); California FIRESCOPE (board member); California Office of Emergency Services, Fire and Rescue (regional coordinator for 12 counties); Penn Valley Fire Protection District (board member for eight years); and Penn Valley Rotary Club. Additionally, Hank holds a lifetime Community College teaching credential and is a retired peace officer with Advanced POST certification.

Committees & Commissions


In addition to serving as Supervisor, Hank serves on a number of advisory committees and commissions, including the Sierra Sacramento Valley Emergency Medical Services Joint Powers Authority Governing Board (Chair), the Nevada County Fire Safe Council (board member for 12 years); the Community Corrections Partnership, the First Five Nevada County Children and Families First Commission, and the Solid and Hazardous Waste Commission. He also chairs the Operational Area Emergency Services Council and the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo).

In 2010, Hank was appointed to the Nevada/Placer County Resource Advisory Committee (RAC). The RAC carries out the requirements of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000, and advises the U.S. Forest Service on projects to be funded with Forest Education monies. In 2013, Hank was selected to represent Nevada County on the Central Sub-region Board under the Sierra Nevada Conservancy.

Personal Life


Hank and his wife, Kandy, live in the Lake Wildwood community. Married 44 years, they have two grown daughters.
