Summer Reading Program

Summer Reading Logo
Summer Reading is important. Reading during the summer improves reading skills and stops summer slide, which is the loss of academic skills over the summer. It's also important to play and learn, which is why we offer so many programs over the summer!

This year's theme is Full STEAM Ahead in Western Nevada County and runs from June 10th - August 4th. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. The Truckee Library theme is Reading by Design and will run June 23rd through August 15th.

There are lots of ways to participate this summer:

Events are free and do not require a library card and are held at all of our Nevada County Community Libraries. You can find them on our calendar by sorting the Event types to Summer Reading.

Summer Reading Program

Sign up at any of our Library branches and get an information sheet and free book when you sign up donated by the Friends of the Libraries and Truckee Friends of the Library. We have programs for pre-readers, kids, and teens.

Turn in your STEAM sheet by August 3rd to receive two free ride tickets to the Nevada County Fair and to be entered into a raffle for prizes including an iPad Mini, gift cards, movie tickets, Nevada County Fair Packages, and prizes donated by local stores.

Maker Family Challenges

Maker Family Challenges will be at all Western County library branches from July 3rd to August 4th. Pick one up for fun STEAM activities you can do at home or at the library.

Come see our Teens-in-Residence! Five Teens-in-Residence were chosen this summer to display their work at our library branches. They include Scientist-in-Residence Clara Luisetti, Engineer-in Residence Nicholas Ashbaugh, Artists-in-Residence Julia Stauffer and Anjali Dowling, and Mathematicians-in-Residence Grace Pardini and Clara Luisetti. Their work will be on display between July 3rd and August 5th.

Work Exhibit

Visit us in the Northern Mines building at the Nevada County Fair from August 9th through the 13th to see an exhibit of work created at the library this summer!
