Prescription Drug Take-Back

Rx Takeback Day is Saturday, October 26, 2019!

Join Nevada County Public Health’s community partners at this year’s Medication Take-Back Day on Saturday, October 26. Help us keep unused medications out of the hands of our youth and out of our water supply by dropping off your unneeded or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications for safe disposal at any of the following locations:

Grass Valley

  • 10am – 2pm
  • Corner of Neal St. and South Auburn St in downtown Grass Valley

Penn Valley

  • 10am – 2pm
  • Penn Valley Shopping Center, corner of Penn Valley Dr. and Spenceville Rd.

Nevada City

  • 10am – 2pm
  • Rood Center, 950 Maidu Ave

  • 9am – 1pm
  • Gateway Shopping Center, 11290 Donner Pass Rd

How it works: This event is free, anonymous and convenient, and any unused or expired over-the-counter or prescription medications will be accepted. Empty pills into a zip-lock bag or black out personal information on bottles. Liquids are acceptable; please keep in original container with the lid on tight and place in a separate plastic bag to insure no leaking.

Please do not bring: sharps, medical waste, aerosols or hydrogen peroxide, illicit drugs.

How To Safely Dispose of Rx Drugs

Help keep drugs out of reach of kids and protect our water supply by properly disposing of your prescription medications. Nevada County Public Health collaborates with numerous community partners to ensure that you have ample locations to drop off unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications. In addition to permanent drop-off sites, keep an eye out for the twice yearly "Prescription Drug Take-Back Days," which is a free event hosted by local law enforcement and the DEA to give our community safe and convenient ways to drop of expired or unused prescription drugs.
