Transparency


The public's right to access public records created and maintained by the County is understood and embraced in Nevada County. Nevada County strives to provide services and records in a transparent manner, which includes timely access to requested records in accordance with the California Public Records Act (Gov't Code section 6250, et seq) (the public's right to access public records created and maintained by the County is understood and embraced in Nevada County).

Defining Public Records


Public Records generally include any writing containing information relating to the conduct of the public's business which is prepared, owned, used, or retained by Nevada County, subject to certain exceptions. Public records are open to inspection by the general public upon reasonable request during regular office hours, except for holidays.


Requesting Public Records


Your request must reasonably describe an identifiable record or records. Your request will be reviewed and responded to within 10 business days after we receive your request. The name of the contact person for your request will be emailed to you shortly after receipt.


Fees


There is a charge of $0.10 per page which is payable prior to release of the records if you are requesting a hard copy of a document. There may be additional charges for storage devices and programming costs for documents provided in certain electronic formats.

Clerk-Recorder Online Record Search & Record Requests


For Official Records (Deeds of Trust, Property Deeds, Recorded Easements, etc.) or Vital Certificates (Birth, Marriage, or Death).

General Public Records Request


To make a General Public Records Request please complete this email with the required information and send it in. It will be received by a general email box and will be forwarded to the appropriate department.

Sheriff's Office Public Records Request


To make a Sheriff's Office Public Records Request please complete this email with the required information and send it in. It will be received by a general email box and processed. Records requested may include but are not limited to: Crime Reports, Animal Control Reports, Jail Records, and Dispatch Records.
