On Thursday April 11, 2019 District IV Supervisor, Susan Hoek, held a Town Hall meeting in North San Juan at the Oak Tree Lodge. The event was well attended and included Sheriff Shannan Moon, Public Works Director Trisha Tillotson, and Transit Services Manager Robin VanValkenburgh. the goal of the meeting was to discuss important issues that include law enforcement, road maintenance, and transit services. The event had approximately 60 people in attendance. Supervisor Hoek welcomed everyone and spoke about the importance of engaging the community.
At the event, Sheriff Moon discussed strategies on increased law enforcement in the area, while acknowledging staffing and resource constraints. Public Works Director Trisha Tillotson provided a summary presentation on Public Works' role and responsibility of maintaining the County's roadways and infrastructure. She highlighted the work Public Works is doing throughout the County and encouraged residents to use the Ask Nevada County mobile app to report road and roadside related requests. She explained that members of the community simply need to download the app from Google Play or the iTunes store, take a picture of the issue, like a pothole in the road and submit the request. Nevada County Transit Services Manager, Robin VanValkenburgh also spoke at the event on the potential opportunity of launching a new bus line in North San Juan. Currently staff is evaluating potential service times and stop locations. Robin explained that the County is looking at launching a two-year pilot program in order to gain the necessary ridership to sustain a service line in the area.
