Summer Lunches in the Park with the Truckee Library

The Truckee Library and Meadow Park are feeding kids minds and bodies this summer by offering a free, healthy lunch to all children ages 18 and under, courtesy of the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District Food and Nutrition Services.

The Summer Lunches with the Library Program is a partnership between the Nevada County Community Library, the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District Food and Nutrition Services, and the Truckee-Donner Recreation and Parks District. The program runs Monday through Friday, starting July 8th and ending on August 2nd.. There is no income requirement to participate and all are welcome. Each weekday at 12:15 pm children ages 0-18 can come to Meadow Park for a free, nutritious meal and a fun, interactive activity.

The Truckee Library staff have planned multiple entertaining options for children and teens to enjoy after their meal thanks to supplies provided by the California Library Association. Activities will include art projects, science experiments, yard games, bubbles, and more. Children and families are welcome to stay in the park and enjoy the activities after lunch.

This program comes as a welcome need for families in the area. When school is no longer in session, children and families may struggle to find food to fill this gap. With the Summer Lunches with the Library in place, youth in the Truckee area will be able to find nutritious meals and enriching programs to help their minds and bodies grow strong throughout the summer.

No sign up or registration is necessary and there is no income requirement. Meals are served on a first come, first served basis. Federal regulations require that lunch must be eaten at the library and cannot be taken from the site.
