The Nevada County Sierra Nevada Regional Department of Child Support Services (SNRDCSS), in collaboration with the Nevada County Department of Social Services, is once again operating a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site offering free tax preparation assistance and filing of simple returns. Tax credits help working families and their communities thrive and unfortunately many tax payers leave them unclaimed annually. This outreach event is aimed to bring awareness to the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a fully refundable credit based on earned income. The amount of your income, or combined income if married, and whether or not you have qualifying children all play a role in determining the amount of the credit to which you may qualify.
This year the County site will operate primarily as a drop off site, which means customers will complete intake forms, then leave their paperwork with staff to complete the return, coming back only to review and submit their return. This new process will save time for the customer as well as County staff. Customers may even complete the intake form online and send it with their paperwork via e-mail. However, some appointment times will be kept available for those individuals not comfortable with leaving their documents.
If you earned less than $56,000 or are disabled, contact SNRDCSS for assistance with your return. The processing of returns will begin on Monday, February 3rd, and continue right up to close of business on Tax Day, April 15th. If you would like to make arrangements to have your taxes prepared, please contact Connecting Point by dialing 2-1-1 or the Department of Child Support Services at 530-265-7097 or by e-mail at SNRDCSS@co.nevada.ca.us. Once you have scheduled your time for tax preparation, your documents may be dropped off at either of our locations:
