In exciting news, the Nevada County Planning Department will be presenting the draft Penn Valley Area Plan on Thursday June 25th at 6PM during a Special Virtual Meeting of the Penn Valley Municipal Advisory Council (PV MAC) via Zoom. Principal Planner Tyler Barrington will be making a formal presentation reviewing the plan, and to receive public comments. The PV MAC will be also providing comments and is anticipated to provide a written recommendation on the Plan to District IV Supervisor Sue Hoek. Once staff receives public input, Planning Staff will be brining the Plan to the Planning Commission for approval which will then go the Board of Supervisors for adoption consideration.
For those unfamiliar, the Planning Department works closely with community on developing area plans for communities in the unincorporated areas of the County that can help drive changes to the County’s General Plan, as well as help identify economic development opportunities over time. The last Penn Valley Area Plan was adopted back in 2000 and is now almost 20 years old. Multiple community workshops were held in 2019 gaining community input and a shared vision of the Penn Valley area for the next 10-15 years. The Plan covers Land Use, Economic Development, Public Services and Infrastructure, Recreation, Historic, Cultural & Natural Resources, and Implementation strategies. The original Plan only included the Penn Valley Village Center. However, as a result of community input the 2020 Area Plan will expand the applicability of the Plan boundaries, establishing unique Community Design Districts for the “Village Core,” “Park,” west and east “Portal,” west and east “Business Opportunity,” the Highway 20 and Pleasant Valley Road “Rural Corridor,” and the “Lake Wildwood Commercial Center”.
