Save the Date: The National and Local Economic Impact of the Coronavirus

Renowned economist, Jon Haveman, will present a public talk on the national and local economic impact of the Coronavirus. The presentation will provide evidence of how the economy is doing, how rapidly we are opening back up, and forecasts of the path forward. The presentation will also provide a discussion of the local economic impact and what the next few months might bring for Nevada County.

Dr. Haveman, the Executive Director of the National Economic Education Delegation, an independent and nonpartisan think tank, is a frequent speaker on the U.S. economy. He will discuss how the coronavirus is affecting the economy, highlighting recent evidence on job losses. Find more information on the National Economic Education Delegation at

"I look forward to hearing Dr. Haveman’s thoughts about how rural communities like ours can rebound to create greater resiliency and sustainability," said County CEO Alison Lehman, who extended the invitation after hearing his talk in mid-May, Covid-19: Economic Implications and Policy Response.

The free public event is sponsored by the County of Nevada, and co-sponsored with the City of Grass Valley, the Town of Truckee, Sierra Business Council, and Economic Resource Council.

Following a 45-minute presentation, Dr. Haveman will take Q&A from the audience, moderated by Pascale Fusshoeller of YubaNet, who is producing the event.
