[ARCHIVED] Four Affordable Housing Projects Move Forward in Nevada County

Four new affordable housing projects are currently moving forward in Nevada County.

Brunswick Commons

In June, Brunswick Commons received Tax Credit Allocation Committee (TCAC) funding totaling $12,185,210. When completed, the Brunswick Commons project will provide 28-units of low-income housing (rent set at 30% of Nevada County’s average median income) and 12-units of Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) for chronically homeless individuals with severe mental illness who are receiving supportive services from the County’s Department of Behavioral Health.

Mike Dent, Director of Nevada County Housing and Community Services notes, "This funding is critical to fully financing this project and will soon bring us 41-units of affordable housing to our community.  It has been a true effort in collaboration from many county departments, the City of Grass Valley our development partners and Hospitality House staff and brings us one step closer to seeing this project come to fruition."

Cashin’s Field

Also in June, Cashin’s Field was approved by the Nevada City council with a 5-0 unanimous vote. The project aims to create a community setting by providing the local workforce with 56 affordable long term apartments. The 51,000-square-foot project slated for 170 Ridge Road has continued to move forward under a pressing timeline to meet the TCAC funding application deadline on July 1st, 2020. Status of TCAC funding will be announces in September.

Permanent Supportive Housing

Nevada County was awarded a No Place Like Home program, competitive allocation, Round 2, award in the amount of $1,412,136. The County’s plan that was approved as part of this application is to remodel of an existing county facility to double the units count at that facility from three to six units.  These units would continue to serve as housing for Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) for chronically homeless individuals with severe mental illness who are receiving supportive services from the County’s Department of Behavioral Health.   The County will be able to draw down funds when the standard agreement is fully executed, and any general and special conditions have been cleared in writing. In addition, expenditures may not be incurred prior to the execution of forthcoming standard agreement.

Lone Oak Senior Housing

The Lone Oak Senior Apartments project is moving forward in Penn Valley. The California Tax Credit Allocation Committee (CTCAC) announced in September that over 7 million in federal low-income housing tax credits would be awarded to this project. The award of tax credits was the final step needed to fully fund the project that is now underway. The building pad for the project is complete and has been certified paving the way for concrete foundation work to begin soon. The project is projected to be completed by March, 2021.
