[ARCHIVED] Nevada County Proclaims October 2020 United Way Campaign Kick-Off Month

United Way

Submitted by United Way of Nevada County

On October 13th, United Way of Nevada County’s Executive Director Megan Timpany attended a Nevada County Board of Supervisors' meeting. The Board of Supervisors declared a resolution proclaiming the month of October, United Way of Nevada County Campaign Kick-off Month.

The event was anything but typical; with social distancing, masks, and CDC guidelines for gatherings utilized." Megan said, “I listened to community members' comments surrounding all we are dealing with as a community and realized just how much the world has changed and how much work our community has ahead of it. The kind words and acknowledgments by the Board of Supervisors about UWNC's extensive history (38 years!) reinforced my belief in our community and our organization. I am so proud of the work that we have done to improve and impact our community over the years and know that moving forward, we will embrace this opportunity to support the residents of Nevada County.”

County employees annually participate through the United Way Workplace Giving Campaign and they also hold in-office fundraising events and a yearly book sale. The money raised from these events and the payroll pledge process (those not designated to other non-profits) goes into the United Way of Nevada County Community Impact Fund. These funds stay local and go toward programs such as Food Access Saturday and the High School Food Pantry. Due to COVID–19, the County is unable to hold their annual book sale which benefited United Way for many years. The County has a great group leading the Campaign Committee for the County's employees. Thanks to Steven Rose, Suzanne Doyle, and Michelle Bodley for taking the lead in this year's campaign.

Employees from local businesses, national corporations and government agencies participate in the annual campaign, pledging donations that are deducted from their paychecks. Employees may donate their pledges to United Way of Nevada County or designate to the 501(c) 3 non-profits of their choice. Some of the businesses that are currently holding Workplace Giving Campaigns are UPS, Telestream, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and B&C Ace Home & Garden Center. United Way of Nevada County appreciates the many hard-working employees who give (or volunteer), the businesses who match donations or give corporate gifts, and businesses who also choose to sponsor special events.

United Way of Nevada County focuses on the basic needs of the community (Access to Health Care, Food and Emergency Shelter).  United Way envisions a community where all individuals and families achieve their desired potential through Healthy Lives, Education and Income Stability. If you know of a business that would like to hold a United Way campaign, call 274-8111 or email
