Nevada County Vaccine Update: Eligibility expands March 15

Nevada County Vaccine Update March 12: Eligibility expands March 15

Appointments for all eligible people are available via MyTurn.ca.gov (or 1-833-422-4255). Public Health posts available appointments to MyTurn.ca.gov every Friday around noon.

What high-risk conditions or disabilities make a person under 65 eligible for a vaccine after March 15?

People ages 16-64 can be eligible if they are deemed to be at the very highest risk for serious illness from COVID-19 for either of the two following reasons:

EITHER because they have one or more of the following severe health conditions:

  • Cancer, current with weakened immune system
  • Chronic kidney disease, stage 4 or above
  • Chronic pulmonary disease, oxygen dependent
  • Down syndrome
  • Solid organ transplant, leading to a weakened immune system
  • Pregnancy
  • Sickle cell disease
  • Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies (but not hypertension)
  • Severe obesity (Body Mass Index ≥ 40 kg/m2)
  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus with hemoglobin A1c level greater than 7.5%

OR if, as a result of a developmental or other significant, high-risk disability, one or more of the following criteria applies:

  • A COVID-19 infection is likely to result in severe life-threatening illness or death; OR
  • Acquiring COVID-19 will limit the individual’s ability to receive ongoing care or services vital to their well-being and survival; OR
  • Providing adequate and timely COVID care will be particularly challenging as a result of the individual’s disability.

These three criteria include people with a range of physical and behavioral disabilities.

Examples include: all enrolled consumers of Regional Centers, Independent Living Centers, In-Home Supportive Services, Community Based Adult Services/Adult Day Health Centers, Medi-Cal HIV/AIDS Waiver, Medi-Cal Home and Community-Based Alternatives Waiver, Medi-Cal Assisted Living Waiver, Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, California Children’s Services Program (if the child is 16-21 years old), and California Genetically Handicapped Persons Program.

Will I need to verify I have a high-risk medical condition or disability when I go to my appointment?

To protect confidentiality, verification documentation of the diagnosis or type of disability is not required but instead anyone meeting the eligibility requirements will be asked to sign a self-attestation that they meet the criteria for high-risk medical conditions or disabilities.

More than 30,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Nevada County

  • The CDC has released new guidance on what you can and can't do once you are fully vaccinated (fully vaccinated means two weeks after your final dose).
  • You are not jumping the line if you are eligible! Every vaccine administered is a win for the whole community. All people in the state's Phase 1A and Phase 1B are eligible to sign up for vaccine via MyTurn.ca.gov. This includes health care workers, education and childcare, food and agriculture, emergency services, and people 65 and older. For a detailed list of who is included in those Phases, check our Vaccine Schedule page. We will continue to release more appointments as vaccine supply allows.
  • If you do secure an appointment, make sure you keep it.
  • Please make every effort to keep your second appointment for Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Every dose is precious.
  • If applicable, you need to receive your second dose where you received your first dose. Public Health cannot schedule second dose-only appointments.

Please stay informed as this is an evolving situation, and continue to be patient as we meet this unprecedented challenge

  • We are still in Purple Tier. Please wear a mask, don't gather, stay socially distance and stay home when you can so we can move to a less restrictive business tier as soon as possible. If you are fully vaccinated, continue to wear your mask in public, don't attend large gatherings, and social distance when in public.
