Celebrate Earth Day with Nevada County

Around the globe, Earth day will be celebrated on April 22nd helping to remind us of the importance that the Earth’s health plays in our everyday lives. This year, Nevada County has multiple opportunities to learn and participate in the celebration of Earth Day. Celebrate Earth Day through learning with our Nevada County Library, recycling with our Solid Waste program and Waste Management, or creating defensible space and cleaning up your property to prepare for our Office of Emergency Services Green Waste events.

  • Participate in the upcoming “Waste Not - Forum on Recycling” on Wednesday April 21, 2021 at 3:30 pm. There is a great line up of speakers from Nevada County Climate Action Now, Briar Patch, SYRCL, Nevada County Solid Waste and Waste Management. Send in your questions ahead of time!
  • Join the conversation on recycling and "waste not" at with like- minded people who are learning, sharing and providing tips about recycling, reuse and other local resources on reducing waste.
  • Seed Starting Grab Bag Kits at the Madelyn Helling Library (beginning on April 22, Earth Day, while supplies last).
  • Grown Your Own Sprouts for your home garden at the Grass Valley Library (beginning on April 22, Earth Day, while supplies last).
  • Prepare your property for fire season by cleaning up and creating defensible space. Mark your calendar for the free Green Waste and Mulch disposal opportunities in May and June.
