On October 30th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building in Grass Valley, Nevada County and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development are teaming up to host a financial resources workshop geared toward the nonprofit and housing communities. This event is free and open to the public. Individuals, nonprofit organizations, lenders, realtors and developers are encouraged to attend and bring project concepts as well as questions to discuss in the interactive question and answer sessions.

"We are fortunate that the USDA will be joining us later this month. This programming is exciting because it has the potential to help infuse our County with funding, help homeowners make much needed repairs, and help individuals realize their dreams of owning a home," said District 3 Supervisor Dan Miller.

Focus on Funding for Nonprofits and Public Entities

The first half of the workshop will focus on funding available to nonprofit organizations and public bodies through USDA Rural Development's Community Facilities Loan and Grant Program. More than 100 types of projects are eligible for Community Facilities funding including healthcare clinics, nursing homes or assisted living facilities; local food systems such as community gardens or food banks; public safety facilities and equipment; and community support services such as transitional housing, child care centers or community centers.

Focus on Homebuyer and Homeowner Financial Assistance

The latter half of the presentation will cover several financial assistance opportunities available for very-low to moderate-income homebuyers and homeowners. USDA Rural Development offers two home loan programs to help families and individuals buy a home in rural California with no down payment requirement. Funding is also available to make it easier for very-low-income homeowners to make home repairs and remove health and safety hazards.

"Meetings such as this help USDA develop strategic partnerships with our rural communities and are critical to our effort to increase economic opportunities and rural prosperity," said USDA Rural Development California State Director Kim Dolbow Vann. "My team and I look forward to joining Nevada County leaders, residents and organizations as we discuss local needs and available resources."

About USDA Rural Development

On average each year, USDA Rural Development invests $1 billion to California's rural communities. Through more than 40 programs, the agency helps create jobs and support economic development, strengthen essential services such as housing, healthcare, and public safety, as well as increases infrastructure for utilities such as water, electric and communications. USDA Rural Development staff will be sharing information about financial assistance programs specific to the County of Nevada.
