Sheriff and Public Defender Offices Partner on Clothing Drive

Cold, wet weather has arrived here in Nevada County. People leaving the custody of the jail frequently face the prospect of release without appropriate clothing to deal with the elements. This year, the Sheriff's Office and the Public Defender's Office are partnering and requesting donations of clean, gently used clothing to provide to folks who need it when they are released. Our indigent residents face constant challenges in their daily lives. Providing weather-appropriate clothing and basic supplies to our neediest residents provides a degree of protection from the elements and may lessen the need for emergency services. Your donations are greatly appreciated.

Running through the end of February, donated items can be dropped at the Public Defender's Office located at 109 N. Pine Street in Nevada City, Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You can also drop off items at the lobby in the Wayne Brown Correction Facility, Tuesday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The most requested items are shoes, winter coats and jackets, women's sweaters and sweatshirts, women's long sleeved shirts in small and large sizes, men's clothing (pants, long sleeved shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, etc.) in all sizes, and socks. For more information contact Keri Klein at the Public Defender's Office (530) 265-1400 or publicdefender@co.nevada.ca.us
