    What is “Talking in Code”? Talking in Code is an interactive workshop with Craig Griesbach, Director of the Nevada County Building Department discussing evolving code requirements, code enforcement consistency, construction trends and much, much more. Contractors, homeowners, architects, engineers, draftsman, industry representatives and anyone involved in a construction or development project can greatly benefit from attending. These meetings are normally held every other month throughout the year.

    Would you like to receive a Letter from a Librarian? We would love to send you one! Staff at the Nevada County Community Library will be answering up to 100 letters or related emails received before May 20th with a friendly response and if requested a small piece of art. Those who wish to participate can register here, call (530) 470-2747, or mail a letter to the Madelyn Helling Library. The letter should include the letter writer’s age, mailing address, activities they enjoy and have been participating in during shelter in place, favorite book or type of book, any questions for the librarian, and whether they would like to receive a piece of artwork.     Truth, like liberty, requires eternal vigilance. How do you spot bullshit in the wild? Effect sizes, dimensions, Fermi estimation, and checks on plausibility. Claims and the interests of those who make them. Forensic data analysis: GRIM test, Newcomb-Benford law.
