    Enjoy the story A Family is a Family is a Family, written by Sara O'Leary, illustrated by Qin Leng, as you follow the map on a stroll through downtown Grass Valley. The story begins at the Grass Valley Library, where you can request a map of the StoryWalk route, and ends at the Bamboo Home Store. Book pages are posted in shop windows, and each page will direct you to the next participating business's display.

    What’s the big deal about gender? In this conversation we will explore biological sex, gender identity, and gender expression to better understand how these concepts impact your life and the lives of others. We will use the following definitions: Biological Sex- refers to the biological anatomy of an individual’s reproductive system, and secondary sex characteristics (male, female, intersex, etc.) Gender Identity- an individual’s concept/identity of themself (man, woman, trans, gender non conforming, etc.) Gender Expression- how individuals present themselves (masculine, feminine, androgynous, etc.) Please register for the link or to join by phone!

  1. Love-and-Kindness Art Contest

    Calling all inspiring young artists! Throughout the months of June and July, the Truckee Library will accept "love-and-kindness-themed" entries for an art contest. A prize will be awarded for the winner of each of the three age groups (preschool, elementary school, and tween/teen). All forms of art such as drawing, paintings, collages, etc. are acceptable. Participants can either mail entries to the library or leave them in the library book drop. Name, age group, and contact information should be included with each entry. Winners will be contacted by library staff in August. Entries will be displayed at the library, for all to see, once the library is open to the public again!

  2. Truckee Storywalk

    For a unique outdoor experience, families will get a chance to stroll along the Truckee Legacy Trail for a "Truckee Library Storywalk" from June 15 through August 13. This year, the event will be based on the book Also an Octopus by Maggie Tokuda-Hall. This delightful picture book will send imaginations soaring! The storywalk begins below the Truckee Regional Park and continues east for about 0.7 miles. Look for the laminated signs!

  3. Origami Book Marks Grab Bag

    Head to the Truckee Library to pick up a Origami Book Marks grab bag. Grab bags will be available during curbside pickup hours, Monday through Friday 12 pm-3 pm. You can get one from library staff when picking up your books or by drop-in. Call the library when you arrive at (530) 582-7846 and let a staff member know you would like an activity bag.
