Purpose & Goals
Volunteers in the Sheriff’s Office offer their talents, skills, abilities and dedication to provide services to their community. Our Volunteers epitomise our Community Orientated Policing philosophy. They are involved in many aspects of our day to day operations, and continue to be an invaluable resource to the department and our community.

Self-Defense Class
Disaster Preparedness
Marine patrol
Boat Safety Inspections
Patrol Assignments
Jail Visitor Registrations
Crime Prevention Programs
Assisting the School Resource Officers
Serve Civil papers
Residential Vacation Checks
Staff Service Centers in Lake of the Pines and Lake Wildwood
Annual Christmas Toy Projects
Other Community Events
Volunteers are required to complete a 90 hour academy program consisting of:
•Patrol Procedures
•Radio Communications
•CPR / First Aid
•Introduction to California Penal Codes
•Report Writing
•Departmental Organization and Structure
•Traffic Control
•Driver Training
In addition, periodic and refresher training is provided in the areas of:
•Civil Procedures
•Boat Safety Inspections
•Self Defense
•Emergency Preparedness
•Special Events
